If you are renovating your Kitchen, you must avoid these seven mistakes so that you will have the best kitchen experience after construction

Not making separate garage for Electronic Appliances

You must have separate garage for Electronic Appliances. This is because electronic appliances have to be connected to electricity and they need to be far away from sink, and heat coming from stove area. You need to plan electronic appliances set up place to increase their life and efficiency inside the kitchen.

Deciding where to keep the kitchen island

Kitchen Island is one of the risks that you are taking in your kitchen design. If the kitchen room size is big enough, Kitchen Island can be extremely useful and gives a good interior look. But if the kitchen is too small, the kitchen island can waste the space and clutter the movement around the kitchen.

Architects suggest that having 40 inches on both sides of kitchen island will be just enough. So you have to plan more than 40 inches’ space on both sides of kitchen island. Some architects say that 24 inches are enough if you are not building a sink in your kitchen island.

Not planning enough space for smooth movement

All of us have got some habits in the Kitchens. We are either used to working along or used to working in two or three. If we have many members working in the kitchen, movement in the kitchen could be distracting to another person.

Not planning the sizes of appliances beforehand

The number of appliances, the size of appliances and their functioning arrangement should be made before renovating your kitchen. Not all the refrigerators are made up of same size. And If you haphazardly plan the electrical outlet, you will have to put electronic appliances near the outlets. Not all electrical and electronic appliances should be put near to each other. If you don’t plan the size, then appliances won’t adjust and you will have to put them in different places.

You also have to consider other things while designing the to-be-renovated kitchen like choosing proper color combination, height of the countertop and material used in it and other things.

Not following the Kitchen triangle rule

Kitchen triangle rule is one of the most important rules that will help you solve almost all the problems in the kitchen after renovation.

Kitchen triangle rule says many things. For example

  • The triangle is formed by the sink, kitchen stove and refrigerator (a symbol that can be used interchangeably for kitchen storage.
  • The measurement of sides of the triangle should be between 4 to 9 feet.
  • If kitchen island is made, then the intersecting distance between the kitchen and kitchen island should not be more than 1 foot.
  • No traffic shall pass through the kitchen triangle.
  • There must be a sink in between refrigerator, cooktop and food preparation area.
  • If the kitchen size is large and will cater joint families, there could be two kitchen triangles. But if the kitchen room size is not too large but requires two kitchen triangle, they should be connected.

Not maximizing the vertical space in small Kitchens

If you are planning a kitchen for a medium sized family in a small sized room, you have to adjust your kitchen appliances, cutleries and spices. The space below the countertop is not at all enough and you must use the vertical space above the countertop. You might put your utensils above the space in the sink, but not the spices. If you don’t maximize this space and plan things at their respective places, you won’t adjust all your kitchen belongings and will need a separate storage facility in the kitchen.

Not putting enough Kitchen Lighting

While renovating your Kitchen, you can give it a modern look by giving all kinds of necessary kitchen lighting including natural lighting.

Pendant lights can be installed at working place. Lights from electronic chimneys right above the stove also work as pendant light.

Ambient light is always installed and should not be missed. They are used for giving the overall lighting to the kitchen.

Task lighting is added to illuminate working spaces. Task lighting works as additional light to the ambient light and not as a sole lighting.

Accent lighting is used for highlighting particular areas. Some types of accent lighting is track lighting, recessed lights, flood lights, wall sconces.
