Waterproofing Methods

Waterproofing Methods
The research and development team
of Engineering Materials manufacturing companies have been doing a lot of
research in waterproofing methods and manufacturing different solutions and
chemicals. The common chemicals that are used in all waterproofing methods are grout
and epoxy, polyurethane, polyurea and polyacrylic compounds.
We hereby discuss several method
or principles, on the basis of which innovative solutions are designed and
various seepage problems currently solved in the market.
Joint Sealant System
As the name suggests, joint
sealant systems are used on joints where two different building material are
expected to make a bond, but fail to make a bond and form cracks. Joint sealant
system should protect the concrete structure from environmental detriments like
rain, water, extreme weather and seepage. Sealants are manufactured according
to various standards of the country it is manufactured in. All sealants exhibits
some common properties and some different properties. Some sealants that are
applicable in highways are not application in airport runways.
Common joint sealant available in
the market is polyurethane. It is considered a reliable and versatile product. Polyurethane
exhibits the property such as adhesion. Polyurethane of companies which can
make a bond with concrete and masonry without the use of primer are more
popular action. Sealants are liquids or gels that use gel action to form a bond
between the concrete surface and itself. In industries, sealants help by
preventing the damage done by chemicals. Polyurethane sealant is also popular
because it makes the appearance of the elements it is added to aesthetically
good.
Flashings
Though weatherproofing has hit
the market parallel with waterproofing, the fundamentals of weatherproofing and
waterproofing is all the same. Flashing is a weatherproof material which are
applied to surfaces where moisture might accumulate. Flashings are typically
applied to the chimneys and vents where surfaces are exposed to dew from the
atmosphere.
Coating is the most widely used
form of negative barrier. The common material used as a membrane or a coating is epoxy. There are
other materials available too. Protective coatings are optimized for monuments
depending upon their use. For example, residential buildings typically use
epoxy because of its durability. Food processing plant uses coating with
anti-bacterial properties such as polyurea coating. Similarly, there is another
coating called methyl methacrylate(MMA) coating which is designed to tolerate
extreme cold and therefore used in cold countries or in industries where
certain areas are designed to have freezing temperature. MMA also gives
anti-slip properties but it is not used in residential buildings because it
gives distinct smell, which is intolerable in residential setting. Sometimes, a
small amount of polyurethane coating is mixed with epoxy coating for generating
gloss finish.
Positive and negative barriers
All sealants and coatings work on
the basis of forming two kinds of barrier to the concrete surface, named
positive and negative barriers.
Positive barriers are applied to
wet or outside surfaces. Positive barriers are also sometimes called
fluid-applied membranes. As water keep accumulating in the positive barrier, it
is costlier to repair because of its high price
Negative barriers are applied
over dry surfaces. This barrier is weaker than positive barriers- it is
generally used as a secondary membrane. Some concrete course might have to be
applied below negative barriers only to make them safe and durable.
Trusted professionals should be
allowed to work as a waterproofing maintenance service. Industrial
professionals need to do assessment of industrial building to see which
building requires which waterproofing method. Trusted waterproofing service
established in the market like SkillSewa will choose the waterproof service for
you based on the basis of your site location and condition.
Conclusion
You have to use trusted service
for your waterproofing needs. SkillSewa will assess your house under the home
inspection scheme in as little as Rs. 2500 and give you estimates of time,
material and costs. It will suggest you suitable waterproofing material based
on whether the crack is occurring on your wall, ceiling or anything else.
We bring products from popular
companies where our sealants are mostly paintable, water immersive and dirt
resistant- giving you a fully finished surface without any stains from any
material in its lifetime. For industries, we are able to customize products
with reference to whether you need heat resistant solution or not.
